One of the easiest ways to get started with using essential oils is topically.
The pores on our feet are larger than anywhere else in the body. This allows essential oils to get into the bloodstream quickly and start working right away. They are also more easily absorbed on the feet than anywhere else on the body.
Our feet also have over 72,000 nerve endings. These nerve endings are much more sensitive than any other part of our body. Each of these nerve endings corresponds to your body\’s organs and systems. This is also known as reflexology.
As a Licensed Massage Therapist, I use oils in conjunction with reflexology for added benefits.
Here are some ways I use essential oils on the feet:
- apply Thieves on the feet to prevent colds. I used this frequently when my daughter went to the sitter\’s or before school
- For chest congestion – I use Eucalyptus, Ravintsara, RC, and Thieves. I like to mix this with Thieves chest rub.
- applying the Raindrop Technique along the inside edge and arch of foot
How to Apply
Diluting essential oils is not necessary when you\’re applying them to the feet. Your feet are far less sensitive than your skin, especially when applying hot oils like oregano and thyme. If you choose to dilute, use a good carrier oil like coconut, joboba, grapeseed, avocado or argan oils.
You can use roller balls or apply right to the feet. If you choose to use roller balls, add the carrier oil and 5-7 drop of your preferred essential oil or blend.
