I like to take this in the morning and evening during \”flu season\”. It helps keep your immune system strong. Now you can too!

Benefits of Elderberries:

  • Powerful immune boosting and anti – viral berry. It treats viral infections like the flu, upper respiratory infections and even shingles.
  • Also known for treating coughs, colds and acute infections. Effective at treating headaches, nausea, asthma, croup, hay fever and tonsillitis.
  • Incredibly high content of vitamin C in this Sambucas berry.
  • Packed with nutrients like zinc, iron, beta carotene, B vitamins.
  • Powerful antioxidant – fights cancer, diabetes and heart disease.

Did you know that Elderberry is part of the sambucus family (a close relative of the blueberry)? They are known for being exceptionally high in antioxidants. Elderberry has been used for centuries and it originated in Europe. It was first used to help heal wounds and used as an anti septic due to its antibacterial properties. Now you too can enjoy the benefits of elderberry. Here\’s my favorite recipe.

Recipe:

  • 4 cups cold water
  • 2 cups organic dried elderberries
  • 1 ceylon stick (cinnamon)
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger root
  • raw local honey

Instructions:

  1. Combine the berries with the water in a pot and bring to a boil. Allow the herbs to simmer for 30-40 minutes.
  2. Remove the berries from the heat and mash them in the liquid.
  3. Strain the liquid through a stainless steel fine mesh colander.
  4. Retaining the liquid, add an equal amount of honey.
  5. Gently heat the liquid and honey until well combined, being careful not to boil.
  6. Store in a glass jar in your refrigerator and use within 12 weeks.
